The Green Man Series

When Cheryl and I decided to publish The Green Man’s Heir in 2018, we had no way to know if the book would find a readership. We had every confidence in the story, but the project had been turned down by agents and editors convinced that my epic fantasy fans wouldn’t like what the industry would class as urban fantasy, while urban fantasy fans wouldn’t be interested in a countryside-based tale from am epic fantasy writer. We had a lot more faith in SF&F fans, but a small press is reliant on social media and word of mouth for publicity, so discoverability would be a huge challenge.

That was then, and this is now. The Green Man’s Heir has sold well over 20,000 copies in all formats. Several of the titles have been shortlisted for major awards, and The Green Man’s Quarry won the BSFA Award for Best Novel in 2024. The Green Man’s Holiday is the eighth and most recent title, published October 30th 2025.

In the course of writing these books, I’ve learned more than I could have imagined about folklore, which isn’t particularly surprising. However I wasn’t expecting to find rewilding and other nature restoration projects so fascinating. It’s also been very rewarding to write these books in ‘real time’, seeing the central characters and their relationships grow and change.

As long as readers are eager for the next book, and as long as I continue to find intriguing inspiration for further stories, I’ll carry on writing them. You can find out more about each title through the links below, in reverse order of publication, most recent first.
