Divination with Runes

The runes were originally used for divination by the ancient races of Forest, Mountain and Plain. Three, six or nine sticks would be thrown in a search for answers to questions and guidance over decisions. Livak is introduced to this practise in The Gambler's Fortune and cannot decide if the rune reading that results is some charlatan's trickery masking a series of informed guesses or might hold rather more wisdom and insight than she is entirely comfortable with.

A simple layout of six sticks in two rows of three will indicate positive and negative aspects to a decision someone is contemplating. A complex triangular layout of all nine runes, with all three sides of each stick interpreted in combination, can offer an interpretation of an individual's character, judge the influence of their parentage and history upon them and assess how all these things relate to the future that awaits them.

There are many different layouts and as the runes land either upright or reversed, their positive and negative aspects are believed to reveal hidden wisdom to those with the skills to interpret them. The meanings of the symmetrical heaven runes take on positive or negative shadings, depending on the other runes so far revealed and the nature of the divination being practised.

As with gambling, more details may be forthcoming here, when time permits
