The Wedding Gift - An Illustrated Tale of Einarinn
The Tales of Einarinn is the series title of the first five books written by UK fantasy author Juliet E. McKenna. They are
The Thief's GambleJuliet has always been fascinated by fantasy, myth and history, which naturally led to studying Classics at St Hilda's College, Oxford. After working in recruitment and personnel and then combining motherhood and bookselling for a few years, she now fits her writing around her family and vice versa.
When embarking on this new career, Juliet set out to write stories where things like politics and religion and sex were facts of every day life, rather than cosmos-shaping forces. Nor is this one of those static fantasy worlds, with no sense of change or progression. The Tales are set in a period where a lot of things are changing, where there are developments in science and technology, philosophy and literature, quite independently of the unforeseen incidents that have wizards and princes running round in circles. Similarly her characters' personal concerns are at least as important to them as the epoch-shattering events they become caught up in.
The Wedding Gift portfolio has been Juliet's first experience of working so closely with different artists. It has been fascinating to see characters she has only imagined revealed in this way.
Juliet is continuing to write books set in the same world with a second series, The Aldabreshin Compass.
